Allen's example, legislative work emphasize preventative health measures

Rep. Fred Allen practices what he preaches. Good thing, too, since he played a large role in saving his own life this time last year.
Just one year ago, Allen was fighting for his life; the enemy, prostate cancer.
“One year ago I was in a struggle for my life,” he said emphatically.
He had taken his own advice; because of routine testing the cancer was detected early and was quite treatable. His chances for survival were greatly increased, and he wants other men to follow his example.
