PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Five Fall 2011 graduates from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) were named at the 9th Fall Commencement Exercise Friday as recipients of the Chancellor’s Medallion. The award is given to graduates with the highest grade point average (gpa) in their academic School. The recipients were:
Brittany Henry (School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences - 3.906 gpa) of DeSoto, Texas. Having received a degree in Human/Sciences, Child Development and Family Studies, Ms. Henry plans to obtain a Master’s degree in Family Therapy/Counseling, become a licensed therapist and join a reputable firm focused on marriage and family therapy. Brittany hopes to impact society by owning her own company to assist families and couples in resolving domestic issues and improving individual relationships.
Tracy House (School of Arts and Sciences - 3.657 gpa) of Little Rock, Arkansas. The Industrial Technology major accepted a job offer with Monsanto Corporation in Grinnell, Iowa. While working there as an Operations and Facility Manager, he plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Operations Management. His ultimate desire is become an executive and aid companies and organizations in his quest to ending world hunger.
Andrea Surratt (School of Business and Management – 3.690 gpa) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The Accounting major will relocate to Jacksonville, Florida where she plans to attend the University of North Florida to pursue her Master’s degree in Accounting. While in graduate school, she plans to work as an auditor for the State. Her ultimate goal is to become a Certified Public Accountant.
Angela Billingsley (School of Education – 4.000 gpa) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Angela majored in Early Childhood Education (P-4) and plans to teach at a local elementary school and serve as a dedicated educator providing a nurturing and scholastic environment for her students. She plans to obtain National Board Certification after completion of the Praxis III assessments and a few years of teaching experience. Angela will pursue a Master’s degree in Library Science in her mission to innovate and expose our youth to scholarly activities.
Katrina Terry (University College – 3.697 gpa) of North Little Rock, Arkansas received her degree in General Studies with an emphasis in Professional Studies – Business Administration and plans to operate a non-profit organization for inner-city youth. Her desire is to expose disadvantaged individuals to an array of mentoring, esteem building and other educational activities that go beyond the traditional youth center environment. She plans to utilize her business and human development skills acquired at UAPB in achieving that goal. Her ideology is, “unique approaches in exposing positive life situations to the underserved will impact our city, state and ultimately, the nation.”
