Arkansas Baptist College in partnership with the Delta Classic 4 Literacy (DC4L) will announce the official schedule of events for the 6th annual Classic and how the Classic’s efforts have helped to create an awareness if illiteracy in Arkansas, specifically in the Delta counties, today at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of Dunbar Middle School in the Library (1100 Wright Ave. Little Rock)

This year’s football game will feature a match-up between the Langston University Lions (Langston, OK) verses the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Golden Lions, played at War Memorial Stadium. This is Langston’s first year to participate in the Classic. Citing the Correlation between illiteracy and criminal behavior, there will be an announcement from Arkansas Baptist College’s Department of African-American Community Leadership. The Department will host a Black on Black Crime ACTION Seminar on the campus of ABC. Also announced will be other exciting events planned throughout the week.

 

The week’-s events include:

Read 2 Lead Program

The Read 2 Lead Program consists of ABC students visiting seven local Elementary schools in Little Rock School district on Tuesday, August 30; Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1. They will also visit students at Harris Elementary in the Pulaski county Special School District. Character books will be read to students and the readers will talk about the importance of being a good reader.

Economic Development Symposium and Luncheon (Wednesday, August 31)

“Where Government and Industry Make a Connection”

Black on Black Crime ACTION Seminar (Thursday, September 1)

A special initiative to take action against Black on Black Crime in the community; this event will be held in Old Main on the campus of Arkansas Baptist College.

Multi –Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame (Friday, September 2)

The Multi- Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame (Formerly African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame), is dedicated to honoring sports legends of all races, will induct five retired professional athletes at its Annual Arkansas Induction Ceremony on Friday, September 2, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Presidential, 600 I-30, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72202 501-375-2100.

DC4L “Old Skool” Concert (Friday, September 2 River Market Amphitheatre)

featuring recording groups: En Vogue, SWV and Silk

Game Day (Saturday, September 3) events include:

DC4L Parade

The DC4L Parade begins at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 3 and starts it’s’ route on east Daisy Gaston Bates Drive to Chester St. (13 blocks)

Tailgate Party

The tailgate Party begins at 11:00 am on Saturday until after the game

The DC4L events are all designed to promote literacy across Arkansas and neighborhood crime prevention in our community. The Classic will raise funds for the Arkansas Literacy Council to help increase literacy in Arkansas.
