The 4
th Annual Jazzy Jeans & Jewels fundraiser sponsored by The Links Inc., the Little Rock Chapter is poised to raise $10,000 for Philander Smith College. The social event featuring “A Taste of Links” will be held at the Metroplex Event Center at 10800 Colonel Glen Road, Little Rock 72204 from 7:00pm until Midnight. Tickets supporting the fundraiser are $40.00 each and may be purchased from any member of the Little Rock Chapter of the Links, Inc.
The fun, philanthropic event includes the culinary skills taste: “A Taste of Links” highlighting food specialties prepared by Links, Connecting Links and Heir -o- Links: Dr. Roosevelt Brown, James Curry, Dr. Charles Donaldson, Dr. Anthony Fletcher, Dr. Lee Frazier, Dr. Tommy Love, Dr. Monica Love-Dellimore, Ricky Mays, Dr. Lee Nayles, Prentice O’Guinn, Gerry Rayford, Rev. Larry Ross, Barry Shackelford, James Slater, Robert Springer, Douglas Woods and Charles Zeigler. This is followed by a jazzy jeans contest where awards will be given to the most innovative pair of jeans worn.
Proceeds from The Jazzy Jeans & Jewels Fundraiser go to deserving Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) in Arkansas. The scholarships are rotated among Arkansas Baptist College and Philander Smith College in Little Rock, and The University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff. Fundraiser Co-Chairperson Lottie Shackelford said, “Our goal is to strengthen colleges and universities so they may empower people and communities for positive change in our society.”
History of the Links
The Links, Inc. is an international service organization comprised of 12,000 professional women of color that continually strives to make a difference in the local, national and global community. Since 1956, the Little Rock Chapter of The Links has focused its efforts on developing the city’s youth, increasing exposure to fine arts, and addressing socioeconomic issues facing minority communities.
